Tottenham Hotspur academy product Japhet Tanganga has reportedly been a player of interest this summer with the Daily Mail reporting that AC Milan and Bournemouth have been keeping tabs on the defender.

It is said that the 23-year-old may be allowed to head out on loan with the view of a permanent switch after the club secured the services of Clement Lenglet from Barcelona for the upcoming campaign.

Football.London reported late last month that Antonio Conte is expected to make a decision on the defender’s future during pre-season and has made the trip to South Korea with the rest of the Spurs squad for the double-header against Team K-League and Sevilla.

Our View – Loan stint for the best

Japhet Tanganga has many times shown flashes of what it takes to be a regular starter at the Premier League level only to be pulled back by injury problems that have halted his development.

A season out on loan at a club like AC Milan could be massive for the development of Tanganga. One only needs to look at another young English defender, one Fikayo Tomori, and how much he has benefited from a change in scenery following his move from Chelsea to the Italian side.

If Tanganga can find consistent game time and avoid recurring injuries, a season on loan could prove to be transformative for his growth and could be just the proof Antonio Conte, who has spoken very highly of the Englishman before, needs to give Tanganga a starting berth at Tottenham.

Tanganga’s greatest asset, his versatility, has added to his difficulties with different coaches using him all across the backline without any real consistency. A lack of rhythm, recurring injuries and poor form have prevented him from really displaying his skills.
