Barcelona striker Memphis Depay is not interested in a move to Tottenham Hotspur, according to Sport.
The Spanish outlet has claimed that Depay could be one of the casualties of the current rebuild being undertaken by Xavi at the Catalan giants and while the Barca boss is an admirer of the Dutchman, the potential arrivals of Raphinha (Fabrizio Romano), and Robert Lewandowski, would impact his involvement.
The report suggests that Barcelona have already received enquiries for the former Lyon player who looks set to leave the Camp Nou, however, he is not interested in a potential €20million (£16.9million move) to north London despite the fact Antonio Conte’s side will play in the Champions League next season.
Depay’s wish is to remain at Barcelona, however, is aware he needs to play regularly and with one year left on his contract, time is running out for the La Liga side to recoup a transfer fee before he potentially walks away as a free agent next year.
Our View
Depay is a quality forward. He can play almost anywhere in attack but can also fall back in a midfield role. There is no hiding that he has the quality to succeed in England as well.
Last season, he was the leading goal-scorer for Barcelona. He made 38 appearances for the former La Liga champions and netted 13 goals. Though he had his injury troubles at the start of the season, he regained his best form towards the end of the campaign.
With only one year left in his current contract, Depay could be a valuable addition to Spurs. But, the player will have to compromise his playtime, with the way Conte’s attack is shaping up.
