Ryan Sessegnon has revealed that he is looking forward to working with Ivan Perisic and improving himself under the veteran’s guidance moving forward.

Tottenham signed Perisic from Inter Milan on a free transfer earlier in the summer to add competition to the left wing-back position, with Sergio Reguilon appearing to be surplus with the Spaniard having been left out of the club’s recent pre-season tour of South Korea by Antonio Conte (Daily Mail).

Sessegnon has revealed that the Croatian international, who did not appear in each of the friendlies in Asia as he steps up his recovery from a calf issue has already been giving him helpful pointers on how he can be more of a threat in the final third of the pitch.

Speaking to Daily Mail, Sessegnon said: “I can learn a lot from him technically, mentally and physically. He’s already helped me with little pointers, tips about the way affect the game more in an attacking sense and score more goals.”

“Being in the box at the right time more often when the ball’s on the other side, being smart, using my brain, communicating a bit more. Whatever I can learn from him will help me in the long run. He’s scored a lot of goals in his career playing in that position.”

Our View

It is good to see that Sessegnon welcomes Perisic’s addition and is using the Croatian to learn more about his trade and give him a greater chance of succeeding at Spurs. In fact, Perisic has played as a winger and a wing-back just like Sessegnon, which could help the latter gain a greater understanding of his role.

What’s more, Perisic has a great injury history (Transfermarkt), and the 33-year-old could also help Sessegnon overcome his fitness issues. Recurring hamstring injuries have always plagued the ex-Fulham ace since joining us (The Sun), which has prevented him from gaining any sort of consistency.

That was the case last season as Sessegnon ran into a setback and was subbed off at half-time in the 5-0 victory against Everton back in March. The 22-year-old was in a fine run of form before the injury halted his progress.

Perhaps, with Perisic’s help, Sessegnon can finally learn how to manage his body better and take care of it in the long run. That would certainly benefit us in the end, which the fans would hope to see in the upcoming campaign.
