Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has admitted that the way Tottenham Hotspur have quietly conducted their transfer business this summer is ‘quite frightening’.

Tottenham Hotspur announced in May that they had agreed to a £150 million capital increase from majority shareholder ENIC. In effect, this was Spurs’ owners putting £150 million into the club’s bank account ahead of the transfer window.

The north Londoners under Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte have uncharacteristically by Tottenham’s previous standards been active early on in the window having brought in six new signings to date in Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Fraser Forster, Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence.

Udinese left wing-back Destiny Udogie is tipped to become the latest arrival, with the Italian Under-21 international expected to undergo a medical in London at the start of next week (Gianluca Di Marzio).

Wright believes the influence of Conte has seen chairman Daniel Levy adopt a different approach to the current market with the Italian looking to turn his side into genuine contenders for silverware.

He told The Ringer podcast: “There is an assured silence from Spurs, at the moment, which is quite frightening.”

“Simply because they don’t normally work like this. Conte is in charge. You can see that. Daniel Levy has given him, what, £150 million?!  ”

“He’s said okay, just go and do your stuff ”

Our View

It is always nice to hear nice things about Tottenham from an Arsenal legend and it shows that we have done some solid transfer business this summer, but fans will not be wanting to get carried away at this early stage.   The match at Chelsea on Sunday will prove to be an interesting indication of where we currently are.

Antonio Conte is known to bring the best out of his teams and now that he has got the players that he wants, let’s sit back and wait for him to develop this squad into trophy challengers in the near future.
