Former West Ham United midfielder Don Hutchinson has claimed it is a ‘no brainer’ for Tottenham Hotspur to secure the services of Dejan Kulusevski on a permanent deal at the end of the season.
The Swedish international joined from Juventus on an 18-month loan deal in January which runs until the end of June next year which saw Spurs pay a €10 million (£8.3million) fee, €3 million (£2.5 million) of which was for last season, and a further €7 million (£5.8milion) for the current campaign, while there is an obligation to buy for £29.2million if certain sporting criteria are met.
Kulusevski was in impressive form last weekend in Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Southampton which saw the 22-year-old score one goal and provide an assist on their way to a 4-1 victory, with Hutchinson left impressed by what he saw from the former Juventus player (transfermarkt).
Hutchinson told Premier League Productions (08/08/22 at 11:20 am): “What a player, £29 million it could be, I think that’s the clause in the contract.
“I had him as Man of the Match against Southampton. He was sensational. Brilliant. Aggressive. He has confidence and goes past people.
“What I like about him most is when he tries to go past people, and it doesn’t come off, then he demands the ball again.
“He’s at the top of his game. He’s so good. His delivery is so good that you can try to send him down to the right-hand side, but he can then burn you for pace. He is a player you find very hard to mark.
“Then he has a delivery, an eye for a pass and is always looking forward. Physically, he was meant for the Premier League. £29 million at the end of this season seems like a no-brainer.”
Our view
It is a mere formality that Tottenham will make Kulusevski’s loan deal permanent at the end of the season, at £29.2million, it represents a brilliant piece of business from Fabio Paratici from a player who has so much more to give.
The Swede has slotted seamlessly into a front three alongside Harry Kane and Heung-min Son. He was the best out of the three on Saturday by some distance which is refreshing to see that we do not always have to rely on the prolific pair to always carve out a win.
