Jamie Redknapp has claimed that talented Spurs defender Christian Romero has the potential to be one of the best centre-backs in the world despite having the occasional mistake in him.
Romero moved to north London from Serie A side Atalanta last summer on loan which included the option for Tottenham to make the deal permanent during the current transfer window.
The Telegraph recently claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to complete the permanent signing of Romero this month for £41million after an impressive first campaign at the club.
The 24-year-old did encounter some injury issues in his first season at Spurs which saw him miss 16 matches in all competitions between November and February with a hamstring issue and also sat out the final few games of the season (transfermarkt)
Redknapp thinks that Romero is destined for the top and can only benefit from playing under Antono Conte, he told the Sky Sports Football Podcast: “Romero is going to be one of the best central defenders in the world, there is no doubt about it. He can be a bit rash, make bad decisions, win balls when he can’t. But he is going to learn from Conte, a fantastic signing.”
Our View
Christian Romero tends to be extremely aggressive and sometimes be rash in his decision-making. He flies into tackles that are non-existent but there is no doubt that he is one Spurs’ best players when fit.
Already a regular in the national team as well, Romero can be one of Conte’s most important players if he can stay fit. Redknapp could be proved right in his prediction about the Argentinian.
