Destiny Udogie has revealed that he is very happy to be securing a move to Tottenham Hotspur and is excited about the prospect of playing for Italian tactician Antonio Conte.
Spurs are set to spend £15 million for the talented Italian left-back with the Udinese defender missing out on the Serie A opener against AC Milan at the weekend, having travelled to London last night ahead of today’s medical at Hotspur Way (Evening Standard).
Udogie is expected to be loaned back to Udinese for the current campaign to continue his development at the Serie A club before linking with the Lilywhites next summer.
The 19-year-old is set to become Tottenham’s seventh signing this season following the likes of Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence in what has been a busy transfer window by Spurs’ standards.
Udogie could not hide his excitement ahead of his potential move to Spurs with him also speaking glowingly about Antonio Conte, he told Tuttomercatoweb: “I’m very happy. It’s a good feeling to go to the Premier League, work with Conte, sign with Tottenham. I am convinced that with Mr Conte I will be able to grow again. For now it is also important to stay with Udinese, I want to have a good season”
Our View
It is a good thing Udogie is set to be loaned back. He is a talented left-back but Spurs already have Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon filling the position. Regular game time is what the Italian starlet needs and he will get just that back in Serie A.
Udogie represents a very exciting crop of signings that we have made from Italy including Dejan Kulusevski, Christian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur. Fabio Paratici’s contacts in the Serie A have benefitted us massively and let’s hope it continues to do so in the future.
