Antonio Conte has delivered a positive update on Oliver Skipp by revealing that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is set to step up his recovery from injury.

Skipp suffered a freak injury during pre-season training when he jumped for an aerial challenge with another player  and landed awkwardly. This led to the 21-year-old suffering a deep cut on his foot from the stud impact and a hairline fracture in his heel (Football. London).

His injury came at a very unfortunate time considering the academy graduate had only recently recovered from a pelvic problem that sidelined him for the second half of last season.

Skipp had played in Tottenham’s two fixtures during their tour of South Korea but has not been a feature since sustaining the problem.

Conte confirmed that Skipp will miss Saturday’s home match against Wolves but is on the road to recovery, he told Football.London: “The other player not available for Wolverhampton is [Oliver] Skipp but good news about him because today or tomorrow he will run again.

“This is really good news. I hope this player to be a bit lucky because since January he started to have a problem. But I think hopefully he will be ready quickly.

We need his performance, he’s a really good guy, and for sure he’s suffering a lot to stay outside, but I think for the period where we have to play a lot of games he will be available, which is really good news for us.”

Our View

Skipp will have been frustrated to have suffered the injury having looked to be one of the fittest players during the tour of South Korea, especially given the strong competition for a place in the middle of midfield.

He has to battle with Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Yves Bissouma for one of the two starting berths in Conte’s team and will now have to play catch-up to get his match fitness back.
