The wife of Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has taken to Instagram to share a photo of the French international sporting a brace on his injured right knee.
Marine Lloris shared the photo on her Instagram story on Wednesday which showed the club’s number one with a cushion under his knee and his joint slightly bent as he recouperates at home.
Lloris picked up the knee problem late on during Tottenham’ 1-0 victory over Premier League champions Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon and has since been ruled out for between six and eight weeks (BBC).
Despite managing to finish the full 90 minutes, medical scans have revealed the 36-year-old suffered knee ligament damage and while he has not undergone surgery, it has not been ruled out, albeit it would delay his return further (The Athletic).
Current understudy Fraser Forster is expected to take Lloris’ place as the club’s number one for the time being, with the inexperienced Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman providing cover for the former Southampton player.
Forster will make just his second start for Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday at Leicester City, having appeared previously during the 2-2 draw at Brentford on Boxing Day.
Tottenham have also been linked with a move for free agent Ben Foster, who retired from professional football last year after his contract at Championship outfit Watford came to a conclusion and has since gone into the media world (Mirror).
Our View
To be without Hugo Lloris for what is a pivotal part of the season as Spurs look to compete in returning to the top four, while looking to end their wait for silverware in either the FA Cup or Champions League is a huge blow for the club.
Forster is an experienced keeper who has also played Champions League football during his time at Celtic, however, the lack of cover if something were to happen to him is a big cause for concern.
Hopefully, surgery is not required and the World Cup winner can return to action before the end of next month.
