Football Insider have revealed that Chelsea have made contact with Mauricio Pochettino, who is interested in taking over from Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge.
Amidst the uncertainty surrounding Antonio Conte’s future at Tottenham, the possibility of Pochettino returning to the North London club has been talked up recently.
Journalist Dean Jones wrote in GiveMeSport a couple of days ago that while Daniel Levy would be open to the Argentine returning to the club if Conte departs, some senior figures at the club are opposed to the move.
Meanwhile, 90 min reported last week that Pochettino had rejected Chelsea’s advances as the job ‘did not tick all the boxes’ for the former Tottenham manager.
However, this has now been contradicted by Football Insider, who state that the 50-year-old would be interested in taking over at Stamford Bridge.
The report adds that the Blues have already reached out to Pochettino as there is now a growing appetite at the club to find a replacement for Potter.
It is explained that the Argentine, who has a home in London, would be open to taking over at the West London club but he is also thought to be attracting interest from other top clubs in England and around Europe.
Our View
With the amount of top young talent Chelsea have at the moment, Pochettino might view the job as being a perfect opportunity to mould the sort of team he wants, as he did at Spurs and Southampton.
It is wishful thinking to expect the 50-year-old to turn down Chelsea in the hope that Tottenham would come calling in the summer, given that there are no guarantees that Conte would depart or that he would be the first choice to replace the Italian.
