Sky Sports have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could battle Brentford for PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko in January.
A number of outlets, including Football Insider, have revealed over the last few weeks that Tottenham are on the lookout for a winger in January following the injuries to Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic.
Bakayoko, who enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season at PSV last term, was mooted as a target for Spurs in the summer, with Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas, telling The Last Word on Spurs podcast back in August that Spurs had their eye on the 20-year-old.
The youngster ended up staying at the Philips Stadion and he has been outstanding so far this campaign, with four goals and 12 assists across all competitions in 2o23-24 (Transfermarkt).
Spurs could reignite interest in Johan Bakayoko
Sky Sports have claimed that Bakayoko’s performances in the Champions League and the Eredivisie this season have caught the attention of several top sides, including Spurs.
However, it is explained that the Lilywhites are not the only Premier League side plotting a move for the PSV star, with the player also said to be on Brentford’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.
It is explained that the Bees are now contemplating whether or not to make an approach for Bakayoko, with Real Betis’ Assane Diao and Grenada’s Bryan Zaragoza said to be other names on the West London club’s wishlist.
Our View
Tottenham’s new-look recruitment team headed by Johan Lange will likely be working to establish their top targets for each position at the moment.
They will likely sit down with Postecoglou over the coming weeks to narrow down their list and decide on their top two or three targets.
Bakayoko will almost certainly be on their initial extended list since the Belgian ticks several boxes for Spurs, given his age, style of play and price range.
