According to the print edition of Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), pressure is building at Barcelona to push through a deal for Giovani Lo Celso in the January window.
Over the last two weeks, various Spanish publications have reported that Barcelona have set their sights on Lo Celso after Gavi sustained a long-term injury (Mundo Deportivo).
A few days ago, The Standard even reported that the Argentine had become the Catalan club’s number one target ahead of January, with Xavi Hernandez said to be pushing for the club to sign the Tottenham man.
The report added that while the Argentine is flattered by Barca’s interest, he is not likely to demand to leave Spurs, especially now that he is getting game time.
Does Lo Celso have a future at Spurs?
Sport have now said that in light of Lo Celso’s impressive performances for Spurs and the news that Gavi will be out for nine months, ‘pressure’ is now building at the La Liga club to sign the player.
The outlet claims that the 27-year-old is seen as someone who would make the Barcelona attack less predictable.
However, the publication adds that Xavi’s men would want to sign Lo Celso on a loan basis, with Spurs unlikely to consider any temporary offers for the player.
Spurs Musings View
Lo Celso is well on his way to establishing himself as an important part of Postecoglou’s squad and I fully expect him to do so over the coming weeks, given that he is likely to get a sustained run in the side amidst Maddison’s injury. So, Tottenham will likely not entertain any offers for the former Real Betis man in January.
