Fabrizio Romano believes Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans is not considered to be a priority transfer target for the north Londoners this summer.
The Belgian international was attracting interest from Spurs and rivals Arsenal in April, Romano revealed in his Here We Go podcast (Episode 98), however, it appears a move is not on the horizon.
Spurs have made important signings in key positions this summer as part of Antonio Conte’s rebuild of the squad and yesterday confirmed the arrival of Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona (Spurs official), following Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison through the door ahead of the new campaign.
Romano claimed that Tottenham’s attentions have been focused on defensive targets, including at right-back, with talks still ongoing with Middesbrough over a potential deal for Djed Spence (Evening Standard).
Journalist Alasdair Gold revealed on his YouTube channel earlier this week that he expects the club to bring in another central defender, with Villarreal’s Pau Torres still said to be on Conte’s radar (Mirror).
He told GIVEMESPORT: “I see a lot of stories but at the moment I don’t have any confirmation on Tottenham [the club’s links with Tielemans] and I think they’re focused on signing a right-back and centre-back with [Clément] Lenglet after also signing Richarlison, so it’s not a priority for them.
Our View – Put it on the backburner
Tottenham already have a strong blend of central midfielders at Conte’s disposal with Bissouma’s arrival complementing the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and January arrival, Rodrigo Bentancur.
Given the priority to improve his defence and add a natural right wing-back to his side, it makes sense why a move for the likes of Tielemans would not be considered a priority.
