Tottenham Hotspur have not made an offer to England international Jesse Lingard at present, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 29-year-old is available as a free agent after his contract at Manchester United concluded at the end of June, ending a twenty year association with the Old Trafford outfit.

It was reported by The Telegraph that Spurs were weighing up a move for the midfielder as they look to add to their current number of homegrown players within Antonio Conte’s squad.

Spurs are currently over the limit of non-homegrown players having recently added Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic and Richarlison to their ranks over recent weeks and will soon have to start moving some foreign players towards the exit (Football.London).

Lingard impressed during his loan spell at West Ham United during the latter half of the 202-21 season, where he got himself back into Gareth Southgate’s England team.  The Hammers are said to be one of a number of teams who are keen to secure his signature.

Our View – A good squad player

Lingard would be a good addition to the squad to cope with the rigours of domestic and European football, given Antonio Conte’s expectaction for the club to compete for silverwhere rather than merely make up the numbers.

However, he is not going to be short of offers from other Premier League sides and he is more likely to choose a move to the likes of Newcastle who will offer him a generous salary and a place in the starting eleven week after week.
