Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that it is currently an ‘open race’ for clubs who are interested in Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil.

The Italian transfer expert revealed that Valencia are currently holding talks with the north Londoners in a bid to bring the Spanish international back to the Mestalla for the upcoming season.

Gil spent the second half of last season on loan at the La Liga outfit with Antonio Conte having sanctioned his departure despite only joining the club from Sevilla, with Erik Lamela heading the other way in a swap-plus-cash deal

The 21-year-old made 20 appearances for the Spurs in all competitions during the first half of the season (transfermarkt) and impressed during his spell back in Spain.

Gil was on the bench for Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Southampton at the weekend with his future likely to be finalised in the coming weeks.

Our View

Gil impressed during his time with Sevilla and also while on loan at Valencia with his style of play much more suited to La Liga than the Premier League.  If Spurs do not envisage a future for him, a loan with an obligation to buy would be the best outcome to try and recoup as much of the fee as possible they paid last summer.

Fabio Paratici’s track record of signings since joining Spurs has been pretty good, however, Gil is arguably the biggest mistake during his short tenure in charge of transfers.
