Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-min Son has been speaking to the press during the international break and has now shed more light on his recovery from a sports hernia injury.
Having won the Premier League Golden Boot award in the 2021/22 campaign, there were high hopes for Heung-min Son’s sophomore season under Antonio Conte. However, the South Korean struggled for form throughout last season and looked a shadow of his former self.
After a slight uptick in form towards the end of the season, Son ended up with 14 goals and six assists in all competitions for Spurs (Transfermarkt).
The reason for that drastic dip in form last year could well be the fact that Son was struggling with a sports hernia throughout the season. The 30-year-old told TV Chosun (as translated by journalist Steve Han) that he ‘struggled with pain’ over the course of ‘eight to nine months’.
It was revealed by the Korea Herald that Son had undergone surgery to fix the issue and the Tottenham attacker is now on his path to recovery.
While away on international duty with South Korea, Son has been telling the press about his fitness. Here’s what journalist Sungmo Lee gleaned from the Tottenham Hotspur star while at the mixed media zone following their 1-1 draw against El Salvador yesterday.
Son said: “I endured the pain for a long time, for 8-9 months, so now it makes me worry a bit that if I do something, I would feel the pain. But now I’m free for a few weeks, so I believe I could be 100% for next season if I have some rest.”

Our View
If we can get Sonny back to full fitness and back to his absolute best, it will be like having a new signing in the squad. He was so far off his usual self last year, and we sorely missed his magic on the field.
