Tottenham Hotspur have ‘touched base’ potential move for Leicester City star James Maddison this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

It was claimed last week that Tottenham are seriously considering the possibility of signing former Norwich player (Paul O Keefe), while the Evening Standard reported earler this week that the north Londoners are searching the market for a creative attacking addition

Tottenham have previously been linked with the likes of Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo and Christian Eriksen, who has joined Manchester United (The Guardian), in recent weeks (Football.London).

Jones has claimed that despite the contact, it would take a sizeable offer from Tottenham to tempt the Foxes in parting company with the England international with their valuation likely to be more than what Fabio Paratici and co are prepared to pay.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “I’m told Spurs have touched base over Maddison and a deal would not be impossible but it would cost them a lot of money. Probably more than they would want to spend. But you never know, the door isn’t closed.”

Our View

Maddison is on the back of a terrific season despite the Foxes suffering a difficult time during that period. He scored 18 goals alongside 12 assists from 53 matches across all competitions (Transfermarkt) which is quite a great return indeed. Hence, it is understandable why we have turned our eyes toward him as of now.

The 25-year-old is under contract at King Power Stadium for two more years, but we could still have a chance to strike a deal for him in this summer transfer window. That is because Brendan Rodgers’ side could be forced to sell Maddison to solve their financial issues.

Rodgers’ team have not made any signings so far this summer which is down to the fact that they need to sell players before making any transfers. They are currently estimated to have over £90million in losses in the upcoming season, with their wages-to-turnover ratio reaching unsustainable levels (The Telegraph).

This situation could pave the way for us to try our cards for Maddison as we could gain the upper hand over Leicester as a result. The midfielder has already revealed his desire to stay beyond this summer, but with an extension not looking closer, he could potentially be plying his trade somewhere else moving forward.
