Tottenham Hotspur are not close to completing a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, according to Calciomercato.com‘s Daniele Longo.

The journalist revealed on Twitter that the Bundesliga outfit would prefer to sell the Ecuadorian international only following the conclusion of this winter’s World Cup, with the tournament in Qatar scheduled to run between Monday 21 November and Sunday 18 December.

The Serie A trident of AC Milan, Roma and Napoli are all also said to be keen on the 20-year-old, who only joined Leverkusen in August of last year from Argentine club CA Talleres.

Tottenham were reportedly told last month (The Sun) that it would cost £34million to land the centre half, who is under contract at BayArena the until the summer of 2026 (transfermarkt).

The translation reads:

#Hincapiè is not close to #Tottenham : #Milan , #Roma and #Napoli like it but #BayerLeverkusen would prefer to sell it only after the World Cup

Our Opinion – Leverkusen holding out for maximum value

Leverkusen will return to the Champions League next season after a three-year absence and will likely want the young defender to be part of their group stage campaign, while also hoping to maximise his value with some impressive performances at the World Cup.

Whether Tottenham will want to wait until January at the earliest remains to be seen, or instead, decide to sit tight until next summer with the hope of landing one of the likes of Josko Gvardiol or Alessandro Bastoni.
