Former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has returned to management for the first time since leaving north London.

The 48-year-old has been unveiled as the new coach of Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, having signed a contract until 2024.  In a video message released to the club’s supporters, he promised to make them ‘proud’, something he also guaranteed to Tottenham fans.

The Portuguese was sacked by Spurs last November (BBC) after just four months in charge, having lost five of their last seven top flight matches which left them in eighth place in the Premier League table.

Nuno was named appointed on a two-year contract last June after four years at Wolves but found the challenge of a bigger club to be too much of an ask.

Al-Ittihad finished second in the Saudi Pro League after a 0-0 home draw with Al-Batin on the final day of the season allowed rivals Al-Hilal to secure the title for a third campaign in a row with a 2-1 win over Al-Faisaly.
