Sampdoria are set to make another attempt in their pursuit to strike a deal for Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil in ‘the coming hours’, according to the Italian source SampNews24.
It is claimed that Antonio Conte does not consider Gil to be among his plans for the next campaign. That being said, Tottenham are not looking to part ways with the youngster completely, and they only want to let him leave temporarily to help with his progression.
Gil looks set to head out of Spurs once again this summer as a result, with Sampdoria being interested in securing his services. The English club is hoping that he will gain some much-needed experience after they set an asking price of €2.5million (£2.1million) to facilitate this loan move.
The north London outfit made a considerable investment in the Spanish international last year as one of Fabio Paraici’s first pieces of business in his new role after they paid £21.4million in a deal which also saw Erik Lamela head to Sevilla in a cash plus exchange deal for Gil (The Guardian).
Our View
Gil spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Valencia, where he enjoyed a bright start to his spell. However, an untimely injury halted his progress, which paved the way for a difficult period in the latter stages of his time with them.
One might have thought that Steven Bergwijn’s £26.4million move to Ajax (Sky Sports) would have freed up a spot for Gil to have his chance. Unfortunately, that seems not to be the case right now, which could be down to the fact that Richarlison was brought in from Everton for around £60million (BBC).
Richarlison is highly versatile and can play as a winger on both sides and a centre-forward when needed. That could have played a role in Gil’s future as he seems to be in line to depart once again in this summer transfer window.
Conte has already revealed his doubts over Gil’s suitability for the Premier League and whether the 21-year-old can adapt to the rigorous football played in England’s top division (Football.London). Hence, perhaps a loan to Marco Giampaolo’s side would help the attacker to grow physically in a defensively solid league like the Serie A.
