Sevilla remain interested in securing the signature of Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon during the summer transfer window, according to the Spanish newspaper ABC Sevilla (print edition – 20/7/22).
Antonio Conte left Reguilon out of his pre-season squad which travelled to South Korea last week for the double header against Team K-League and Sevilla and appears not to be in Italian’s plans for the upcoming campaign (Daily Mail).
Ivan Perisic’s arrival on a free transfer from Inter Milan (BBC) has further impacted Reguilon’s chances of regular game time, with the Croatian likely to battle it out with Ryan Sessegnon for the left wing-back slot.
Tottenham and Reguilon are both reported to be ‘looking for an exit’ this summer, with the La Liga side continuing to maintain their interest in the Spanish international, where he previously enjoyed a loan spell during the 2019/20 campaign.
The north Londoners are looking to recoup as much as possible of the €30million (£25.5million) they paid to Real Madrid to secure his services in 2020. However, the former Europa League champions would have it much easier in this pursuit if they can generate finances from the sale of Jules Kounde, who is currently being targeted by Chelsea and Barcelona (Football.London).
Our View
With Ryan Sessegnon and Perisic providing a good balance between young blood and experience, it is difficult to see Reguilon staying beyond this summer. Hence, it would be best if we find a solution to this situation by selling him at the earliest, raising some much-needed funds in the process.
We are still looking to bring in a creative attacker, with another defender possibly being on the cards as well (Evening Standard). Fortunately for us, it is stated that there are other interested parties for Reguilon at this moment which gives us enough room to ask for a decent fee.
The 25-year-old is also on Juventus’ radar (Calciomercato), although Reguilon is claimed to be ‘delighted’ at the prospect of a return to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán. Now, it would be up to Julen Lopetegui’s side to raise the funds that are required to sign him this summer.
Kounde’s future could play a major part in that regard so let’s keep an eye out for how this situation would play out in the coming days with the Blues and Barca battling it out for his services. Ideally, we would like to see his departure soon so that Reguilon’s exit can be finalised shortly.
