Barcelona have no intention of pursuing a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon during the summer transfer window, according to the Spanish media outlet Sport.

Earlier reports had claimed that Reguilon had become a ‘low cost’ alternative for the Catalan giants should they fail to sign Marcos Alonso or Javi Galán for the left-back position (Mundo Deportivo).

The Spanish international was left out of the team that travelled to South Korea for last week’s pre-season friendlies against Team K-League and his old club Sevilla (Daily Mail),

The report claims there is ‘no chance’ of a move to the Nou Camp materialising due to the fact that Reguilon is a ‘fanatical’ fan of former side Real Madrid, where he came up through the academy ranks which leaves his representatives Kia Joorabchian and Giuliano Bertolucci ‘looking for a new destination’.

Our View

Fortunately for us, there are other interested parties who could table a bid for the former Los Blancos man in this window. That would give a sigh of relief to those at N17 as the left wing-back spot is currently overloaded after Ivan Perisic was signed on a free transfer from Inter Milan (BBC).

With Ryan Sessegnon impressing at the end of last season under Conte, it would make no sense to keep hold of Reguilon beyond this summer. The latter was responsible for his downfall as he could not build on the early promise he showcased under the Italian boss.

Conte’s wing-backs play a major role in the attacking department, which is where Reguilon failed to make a mark. There have been many occasions where he could not deal the decisive blow by putting the ball in the net or facilitating the incisive pass to his teammates in the final third.

Hence, the supporters have also accepted the decision to sell Reguilon as it could raise some funds to meet their needs in other areas. He is currently being linked with a move to Sevilla (Mundo Deportivo) or Juventus (CalciomercatoWeb), which does give us some room to work with to recoup the £27million investment (The Sun) we made to secure his signature.
