Tottenham are interested in signing Blackburn Rovers’ highly-rated Ashley Phillips, however, the defender is expected to stay with Blackburn Rovers this summer, according to Evening Standard.
The report claims it is likely that Phillips will opt to remain at Ewood Park and with his contract expiring at the end of this season and the Ewood Park outfit want to tie him down to a long-term deal.
The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that the defender caught the eye of Spurs scouts with his performances for Rovers’ development side last season and had also caught the eye of Manchester United and Chelsea.
Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas also revealed a few days ago that while Tottenham do hold an interest in the centre half, the club are yet to make a bid for the centre-back.
The 17-year-old has already made four appearances for their first team this season across all competitions. (transfermarkt).
Our View
Fabio Paratici has shown that he has a keen eye to sign young talented players with the most recent example being the transfer of Destiny Udogie from Udinese.
However, it is easy to understand why Phillips wants to stay. He is 17 and he has just broken into the first team and is likely to get regular game time. One option for Spurs would be to sign the talented starlet and loan him back to the club, similar to what we have done with Udogie.
