Fiorentina are in line to reignite their interest in Tottenham Hotspur ace Giovani Lo Celso this summer, according to the Italian publication Corriere Fiorentino.
Lo Celos was left out of the Tottenham pre-season squad that headed to Asia for the tour of South Korea along with Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele and Sergio Reguilon, leaving him in no doubt that he is surplus to requirements under Antonio Conte (Daily Mail).
Lo Celso has already been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid and Villarreal during the summer transfer window (AS). The Serie A outfit are currently assessing their options to make a “big investment” in this summer transfer window which has seen Lo Celso get on their radar once again.
That being said, Fiorentina are in no rush and are “calmly” looking at the possibilities to see if they can table a bid for the Argentine midfielder.
Our View
The 26-year-old was excellent for the Yellow Submarine when he was on loan with them last season, having played a major role in their impressive run in the Champions League. However, his performances for Villarreal and Argentina seem not to have helped to change Conte’s mind about the midfielder.
Lo Celso always seemed to have this problem as he never replicated the form he had shown for his national team when playing for us. Hence, it would be best to part ways with him for a decent price, but whether we can recoup the £30million (Football.London) that was paid to Real Betis back in 2020 or not remains to be seen.
Lo Celso still has three years left in his current contract (Football.London), which, coupled with his displays for Unai Emery’s team and Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina, should give us enough leeway to demand a decent amount. That is especially the case now that Fiorentina are in the mix to sign the central midfielder this summer.
In any case, Lo Celso’s sale could raise some funds to improve our transfer budget for this summer. While we have made a number of signings so far, perhaps the centre-back areas could use another addition looking at our current options.
Clement Lenglet could prove to be a solid short-term acquisition, but it would be best if we could find a long-term option to solidify our backline to a greater extent.
