Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil is closing in on a loan move to La Liga club Valencia, according to the print edition of Spanish newspaper AS (10/08/22).
The papers claims that Valencia made contact with the north Londoners on Monday and since then, talks have ‘intensified’ to bring the Spanish international back to the Mestalla.
Gil spent the second half of last season out on loan at Valencia after Antonio Conte allowed the young 21-year-old to leave in search of regular game time, just six months after joining the Lilywhites from Sevilla. (Atheltic)
It had earlier claimed that the Spanish club are looking to sign Gil as a replacement for Goncalo Guedes, who has since joined Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed earlier this week that Valencia are not the only club interested in the midfielder, with fellow La Liga outfit Real Sociedad also having made contact with Tottenham over a potential deal.
The report claims that Tottenham are expecting a similar loan fee as they received in January in the region of €1m (£845,000) to make the deal happen, however, further discussions will have to take place over Gil’s salary, with Valencia unable to cover the full amount.
Our view
Gil’s best chances of regular first team football this season are to head out on loan once again, he is well down in the pecking order under Antonio Conte and has been since the Italian arrived at the club.
The Spaniard isn’t currently best suited to the demands of English football and the best that Tottenham can hope for is that he catches the eye on loan this season to try and recoup as much of a fee next summer as possible. Considering Erik Lamela was used as a makeweight in this deal, the Argentine was much more suited to playing in England than what Gil is.
