Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly blocked the prospect of Bryan Gil leaving the club this summer unless a suitable replacement is signed, according to journalist Matteo Moretto on Twitter.

Fabrizio Romano revealed last week that Valencia are continuing talks with Tottenham in the hope of Gil returning on loan following the winger’s successful spell at the club during the second half of last season.

Antonio Conte allowed the 21-year-old to leave in search of regular game time last season, just six months after joining the Lilywhites from Sevilla as one of Fabio Paratici’s first signings following his arrival from Italy (The Atheltic).

Moretto claimed that while Valencia are also considering Lille’s Timothy Weah and Ignacio Pussetto of Watford as alternatives if a move for the Tottenham player cannot be finalised.

Our View

Considering the plethora of options available in Spurs’ forward areas, especially with the addition of Richarlison this summer, it seems almost unlikely that Gil will get any meaningful game time this season.

While squad depth is important if Tottenham want to compete on multiple fronts this season, a return to Spain is the best option for both the player and the club to potentially allow another player capable of making an impact to come into the squad.
