Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham are confident that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will not leave the club after speaking to the midfielder about Real Madrid’s interest.
The Telegraph revealed on Friday that Madrid had identified Hojbjerg as the man to replace Casemiro, who has joined Manchester United. The report asserted that the La Liga giants could submit an offer for the Tottenham star before the transfer window closes.
Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg subsequently took to social media to state that Carlo Ancelotti is a fan of the Dane but he added that Los Blancos are unlikely to sign a replacement for Casemiro before the end of the transfer window.
Football Insider have now also confirmed Real Madrid’s eagerness to sign Hojbjerg, stating that the European champions have a ‘strong’ interest in the 27-year-old.
However, the report adds that Spurs have spoken to the former Southampton man about his future in recent hours. It is suggested that Antonio Conte’s men have ‘no fears’ that Hojbjerg will leave the club before the transfer window closes.
Our View
There is simply no way Spurs will consider letting Hojbjerg go so close to the end of the transfer window as that could cause needless disruption.
However, I do suspect that Tottenham would have been receptive to offers of around the £40m range for the midfielder if Real Madrid had registered their interest earlier in the transfer window.
While the Dane is an important player, I believe that Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici will believe he can they can find an upgrade for the aforementioned fee.
