Tottenham Hotspur could still decide to bolster their options in their defence following the signing of Djed Spence, according to the Evening Standard.
Tottenham confirmed the arrival of Spence as their sixth addition of the summer transfer window earlier today, having signed on a five-year deal from Middlesbrough.
The report claims that Spurs may move for a central defender before the window closes, with Clement Lenglet moving earlier this month to north London on a season-long loan move from Barcelona.
Spurs have been linked with moves for the likes of Josko Gvardiol, Pau Torres and Rodrigo Becao (Ekrem Konur) as potential candidates to further bolster his defensive options.
Japhet Tanganga has been heavily linked with a move to Serie A giants AC Milan, which could further justify the reasoning of being open to the possiblity of bringing in another face at the back (Daily Mail).
Our View
Clement Lenglet has arrived on a season-long loan spell from Barcelona (Daily Mail), and he could be a solid signing for the time being in the left centre-back role. Ben Davies had put in a decent shift in that position last season, with both of them expected to compete for the starting spot.
However, the issue lies in the middle, as Eric Dier would have no one to back him up should Rodon and Tanganga depart in this transfer window. Hence, it would make sense if the north Londoners would pursue another central defensive addition ahead of the next campaign.
Sevilla’s Jules Kounde has become an option for us (The Mirror), and his signing would undoubtedly be a massive statement indeed. However, Barcelona and Chelsea are also in the mix to sign him (AS), making him a difficult target to get our hands on this summer.
Pau Torres of Villarreal is another option from La Liga as he has been linked with a move to N17 (ESPN), but we would face competition from Juventus, who have just lost Matthijs de Ligt to Bayern Munich (Mundo Deportivo).
Udinese ace Rodrigo Becao (Ekrem Konur) and Palmeiras defender Joaquin Piquerez (Marc Mechenoua) are some of the left-field choices who are claimed to be on our radar as of now.
