Real Sociedad are looking at Bryan Gil as one of their main summer targets, according to a report from Estadio Deportivo
The report claims the winger is waiting for Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte to decide if he forms part of his plans for the upcoming season. The 21-year-old has failed to start a Premier League match since moving from Sevilla last summer (transfermarkt).
Gil joined Valencia in late January on loan for the remainder of the campaign and had an impressive start to his stint at the Mestalla Stadium until sustaining a hip injury in April which limited his involvement afterward (transfermarkt).
Tottenham are said to want to send Gil on loan to a club who are involved in European competition next season, with Sociedad having qualified for the Europa League
Last month, Fabrizio Romano also mentioned that Olympique Marseille were interested in signing the Spaniard, however, a deal was not said to be close.
Gil has made the trip to South Korea with the rest of the Tottenham squad, where it is reported he will be given the chance to impress Conte and the rest of the Spurs backroom staff, with the Italian having reservations over Gil’s suitability for English football (Evening Standard).
Our View
At this stage of his career, it is clear that Gil’s priority is to play. The 21-year-old is already relatively experienced when it comes to playing in La Liga. Therefore, it is highly possible that he will prefer a move back to Spain.
Moreover, it will be difficult to fit Gil into Conte’s frontline. The former Inter Milan boss has added Richarlison to his attack. And, with Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, and Son Heung-min waiting, it is difficult to see Gil get any minutes. A return to La Liga to continue his experience of first-team football will be the best solution for all the parties involved.
