According to inews, newly-promoted Championship side Sunderland are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur’s Troy Parrott on loan following their return to Championship.

The Black Cats are interested in signing the Irish striker. Parrott, a Spurs academy product also spent the last season with MK Dons on loan and now Spurs are ready to send him on loan once again, to further his development. The report however claims that the north London club want Parrott to play as a number nine rather than a 10.

The Northern Echo has also reported that Sunderland have made a bid to sign the 20-year-old on loan. They have already completed the signing of Jack Clarke on a permanent basis, having already loaned him for the second part of last season. And now, The Black Cats want to sign Parrott while Preston and Queens Park Rangers are also claimed to be interested in signing Parrott on loan should Conte decide to release him.

Sunderland boss Alex Neil is keen on increasing his attacking depth and providing cover for Ross Stewart. The Irishman, therefore, has been identified as a potential season-long loan signing, claims the Northern Echo.

Parrott scored 10 goals (Transfermarkt) for MK Dons last season in all competitions, only for his temporary employers to narrowly missed out on the promotion to Championship.

Our View

Troy Parrott was included in Antonio Conte’s squad for the preseason tour of South Korea. However, it is highly unlikely that he will regular first-team minutes should he stay put at the N17 club. The likes of Lucas Moura, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison are ahead of him in the pecking order.

A loan move at this stage of his career would be ideal for his game to develop. Moreover, it is also good to see Spurs having a clear vision for him (by asking to play him as number nine).
