Tottenham are currently assessing their options to facilitate a move for AS Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo, who is rumoured to be on their transfer shortlist for this summer, according to the Italian outlet Calciomercato.
However, Tottenham would have to sell some players first before they look to proceed with a move for the Italian international. Spurs’ managing director of football, Fabio Paratici is currently in Italy, where he will hold initial discussions with the Serie A side following Antonio Conte’s interest in the player.
Lucas Moura and Tanguy Ndombele have been touted to be the two potential outgoings who could make way for Zaniolo. Interestingly enough, Ndombele is said to be attracting interest from Roma, after it was reported earlier this month that he has previously been offered to Lazio. (Roma Giallorossa).
However, both deals are said to be separate, with Jose Mourinho’s side wanting a straight cash move for Zaniolo while Ndombele’s deal would likely to be structured as initial loan plus an obligation to buy.
Our View
Ndombele has been deemed surplus for requirements since last January, having returned to Lyon on loan. Selling him would make sense for that reason, although Moura is not in the same category. However, replacing the latter with Zaniolo would be interesting as it can meet several needs at once.
After all, the depth on the right-wing would remain intact with Zaniolo’s arrival while he can also be utilised in the number ten role. There are plans to bring in a creative attacker (Evening Standard), which makes the 23-year-old a perfect reinforcement indeed.
Zaniolo would be quite expensive, as his current valuation is set at £42.5million, but that is not the only obstacle that Spurs would need to face. He does not intend to leave Italy as of now, which could be problematic considering how Juventus are interested in his services.
Manchester United have also been linked with a move for Zaniolo, adding to the issues that lie in our pathway. That means there is a lot of ground to cover before the north Londoners are close to making the Serie A ace their seventh signing of this summer transfer window.
