Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing 24-year-old FC Porto striker Evanilson, according to Spanish publication Fichajes.
The Brazilian striker has established himself as one of Porto’s main players this season with 10 goals and one assist from 13 games in all competitions (Transfermarkt)
The report claims that Spurs could face competition from both Chelsea and Manchester United, who are also interested in the player. Both teams have struggled to score goals this season and want to sign a number nine in January.
Yet to make his senior debut for his country, if he can continue to perform in a similar vein, it is only a matter of time before Fernando Diniz surely considers calling him up to the senior squad.
Evanlison’s contract situation could complicate transfer
Having established himself as one of Porto’s best players, Spurs and other competitors could struggle to sign him due to his current contract situation.
Evanilson is under contract with the Portuguese club until 2027, and they do not intend to let the 24-year-old leave. Porto are said to be demanding a significant fee for the striker if they do sanction his exit.
Spurs Musings Opinion
Realistically, I do not see Spurs signing Evanlison. All the speculation might be down to the fact that we haven’t replaced Harry Kane who left the club in the summer to join Bayern Munich.
Evanlison is a good player but I do not think he is the kind of profile Spurs are looking at. I will be very surprised if this deal goes through but stranger things have happened in football, I would much prefer to see us pushing for Ivan Toney, who is Premier League proven.
