Tottenham Hotspur academy product Oliver Skipp made his return to action against Team-K League on Wednesday.
Spurs faced the South Korean top flight select side in Seoul as a part of their pre-season tour, having won the fixture 6-3. However, more importantly for Skipp, it marked his return following a frustrating few months sidelined through injury.
The 21-year-old had not played since a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea in the Premier League in late January (transfermarkt) and eventually had to undergo surgery in April having flown to the United States to rectify a pubis injury (Spurs official).
The midfielder admitted that he was glad to be back in action for the north Londoners in a match against an opponent as he looks to build up his fitness ahead of the new campaign, having missed a total of twenty games in the last season
Skipp will be hoping to get some further game time under his belt later today when Antonio Conte’s side face La Liga outfit Sevilla at the Suwon World Cup Stadium to round off their trip to Asia.
He told the official Spurs site: “It felt really good to be back out there. It’s been a long time, so it was great to get those minutes in and be back with the team, being out here, 11 v 11, that was really nice!
“It’s amazing, the support we’ve had from everyone since we’ve been here, amazing. The whole team has felt the love from everyone in Korea, so we’re really grateful.”
Our View
Oliver Skipp could become an important player under Antonio Conte and has a battle on his hands this season for regular first-team football with competition for places in the middle of the park. Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will all be vying with the 21-year-old to impress the Italian ahead of the season opener against Southampton.
