Jamie O’Hara has admitted that he has been left impressed by Dejan Kulusevski’s form and believes he could be as good as Manchester City’s Phil Foden.
The Swedish international was named in Antonio Conte’s starting eleven for the Premier League opener against Southampton on Saturday afternoon and put in a Man of the Match performance to help his side to a 4-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Kulusevski has had a remarkable impact during his time in north London since joining the club from Juventus in the January transfer window, having scored 6 goals and registering 9 assists in 21 appearances across all competitions (transfermarkt).
Foden, who is also 22, has been billed as potentially being the best English talent of his generation by former City team-mate Sergio Aguero (talkSPORT).
Former Spurs midfielder, O’Hara has suggested that it is up for debate which of the two is the better player. He told talkSPORT: “Kuluveski and Foden is a close call as well. Kulusevski is in unbelievable form right now and he’s 22 years of age.
“It’s up for debate.”
Our View
Kulusevski has not received the same level of attention, especially in England as to what Foden has generated as the poster boy of the next generation of Engish footballers. However, the Swede is quietly going about his business and was sensational in his goalscoring performance against the Saints at the weekend.
He has seamlessly slotted in alongside Harry Kane and Heung-min Son into Tottenham’s attacking front three, which is no mean feat to do, especially for a player who is new to the league and is just 22.
