Fiorentina sporting Director Daniele Prade has claimed that contrary to reports, there are no talks between Tottenham and the Italian club to sign out-of-favour Argentinian midfielder Giovani Lo Celso this summer, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

It has emerged in recent days that the midfielder is closing in on a move to La Liga club Villarreal, where he spent the second half last season, with a loan deal including an obligation or option to buy considered the most likely option as things stand according to TYC Sports journalist Cesar Luis Merlo.

Sky Sport Italia claimed earlier this week that La Liga could block Villarreal’s move for Lo Celso due to a breach in financial fair play and that Fiorentina could hijack the deal, however that does not seem to be the case.

Prade’s comments have been backed up by Spanish-based journalist Matteo Moretto, who has claimed Lo Celso’s return to Villarreal is very much on track is instead expected to be a straightforward loan with no option or obligation to buy.

Prade told reporters as quoted by Tuttomercatoweb: “We have never talked to Tottenham [about Lo Celso], there is really nothing.”

Our View

It seems as things stand that Villarreal are the front runners to sign the Argentinian misfit, especially with Fiorentina denying they have held talks over a potential move.

However, Spurs may be forced to change the structure of loan to a simple one to comply with La Liga’s financial fair play rules which means we could find ourselves in this very situation next summer trying to sell Lo Celso again. Nevertheless, Lo Celso’s exit before the transfer window closes is a mere formality.
